Abstract. In recent decades, mankind is thinking more and more about the environmental problems of the earth and ways to solve them. Not only the issues of environmental pollution are important, but also the issues of rational consumption of natural resources. Irrational use of resources leads to their depletion, impoverishment and deterioration of the quality of the natural environment, violation of the ecological balance, accumulation of waste and is accompanied by pollution of natural systems.
A particularly important role in solving the problems of rational use of resources belongs to the industrial enterprises of various sectors of the economy, including light industry. The enterprises of the fashion industry producing clothes, subject to the tendencies of fast changing of fashion trends, produce a huge number of products. As a consequence, clothes have not lost their utilitarian value, they are not in demand and are utilized, which leads to environmental pollution. This actualizes the need to revise the human attitude to clothing in general and to its true purpose in particular. The ideas of creating multifunctional, transformable clothing that can increase the service life of products and/or combine several different products are becoming more and more interesting and demanded.
The results of the design and research work presented in this article meet the concept of rational consumption of resources. The proposed model of women’s multifunctional clothing, through the use of transformation techniques is transformed from a vest into a jacket, trench coat, raincoat, coat. More than ten combinations of modules allow to create various products for various purposes and of a kind. The model consists of two basic vests (one of which is double-sided with an insulating lining) and additional modules of length, sleeve and collar.
The article also describes the technology developed by the authors for designing a construction of women’s clothing on the basis of a straight cut, which formed the basis for creating a basic model. The authors have allocated a minimum set of measurements of the human body, needed to develop the basic design and additional modules; recommended the ratio of the length of the basic design of the vest to the length of the length module; determined the order of staged construction of the basic design of the waist and sleeve of the product, developed formulas for calculating each section of the design; developed the technological sequence of manufacturing the product; recommended the modeling method on the basis of the straight cut as a priority for the concept of rational consumption resources in terms of optimal material intensity of the product and the percentage of interstitial waste.
