Abstract. Physical and mathematical models of volumetric processing of leather for special purposes in the plasma of a low-pressure RF discharge are presented. It is shown that latent electricity arise on the inner surfaces of the pores due to the polarization of the leather in an RF electric field created by the potential difference between the positively charged plasma layers on opposite sides of the sample. Latent electricity induce a local electric field in the pores, the intensity of which reaches 109–1010 V/m near the pores walls. The induced electric field causes a breakdown of the pore volume, which leads to the activation and modification of the inner surfaces of the pores. This means that during the treatment of leather for special purposes in a low-pressure RF-discharge, volumetric modification of the parameters of the properties of the skin can occur.
