Abstract. The article provides historical research and scientific research in the field of the origin and creation of leather gloves.

Traces of the past are left by various historical sources based on which it is possible to reconstruct the past in its essential features and manifestations.

The aim is to trace the evolution of glove wearing and the influence of fashion on this garment over time based on historical sources. The article considers gloves as a cultural and material heritage of fashion. The historical periods of the emergence of gloves as an accessory, the materials used for the manufacture of gloves, historically established methods of glove design, fashion trends in the culture of wearing gloves, and the development of industrial glove production are identified.

The article discusses various types and stages of production and modification of glove designs. An analysis of the existence of gloves in different countries at various historical stages of their development is presented. It has been proven that, despite the special relationship to the glove, it has not lost its functional purpose during certain periods of its existence. An analytical review of various sources made it possible to identify the main shapes of gloves and to establish the most significant processes influencing the shaping of these products. This approach is being developed in the framework of the dissertation of K.V. Tsoi. «Research and development of designs of women’s glove products using modern information technologies». The authors present the results of a retrospective analysis of historical sources and modern scientific literature in order to obtain information about the origin of gloves.
