Abstract. This article is devoted to the study of the peculiarities of pattern layout and cutting on coupons of tapestry with a large pattern. The relevance of the chosen topic is due to the growing need to introduce environmentally friendly methods of production of light industry products, as well as the search for innovative approaches to the use of irrelevant textile materials. Within the framework of the work the authors propose the concept of upcycling collection of women’s clothing with the use of tapestry coupons.
The main task of this research was to identify the optimal techniques of laying out the product patterns on the material, which has many limitations related to the size and location of the pattern.
The paper discusses various ways of matching fabric images, including both physical matching in a product or ensemble and virtual-spatial matching. This allows for a more efficient use of available resources and the creation of harmonious products that maximize the consideration of pattern features.
The practical significance of the study lies in the proposals for the effective use of tapestry coupons in the production of clothing, which will significantly minimize waste and, in turn, improve the aesthetic qualities of finished products. The findings confirm the possibility of reusing unique historical materials in contemporary fashion. This helps to reduce the negative environmental impact of the textile industry.
It is important to note that the article includes a detailed review of literary sources, which allows a deeper understanding of the topic. The research was conducted using modern computer technologies of modelling and virtual fitting, which allowed to clearly demonstrate the opportunities that are open to designers when working with tapestry coupons.
