Abstract. This paper is a review about the development of inclusion in society through a public demonstration of disability. The purpose of this review is to study the effectiveness of the impact of public projects involving people with body and mental disabilities on the inclusive society formation. The review presented in the article was completed in the framework of a doctoral dissertation. The article provides data on the history of the inclusive socio-cultural projects formation by people with disabilities in the world and in Russia.

A chronological analysis of public projects and fashion shows with disabled models was carried out. Examples of how the media, advertising agencies and popular television shows can contribute to changing the perception of people with disabilities in society are given. The prerequisites for the creation of inclusive projects in Russia, the relevance of designing clothing and technical means of rehabilitation for people with different types of disabilities are considered.

Using real examples, this paper reveals that the perception of people with disabilities is changing in society. The disabled people more often tend to shock people and to show a special body or special behavior to full advantage. For many years it was believed that disability cannot be aesthetic, that people with disabilities should hide their shortcomings. However, recently, technical means of rehabilitation (prostheses and clothing) have become objects of design, and a separate direction of functional and aesthetic rehabilitation products is developing in the world.

It has been established that people who actively participate in social and cultural public events are better rehabilitated and successful in life, moreover they also often become public figures and help other people.
