Abstract. An important component of the educational process is the implementation of students’ ideas into real products and collections. In order to motivate students, to draw their attention to the rich heritage of their ancestors, to increase creative motivation, the authors of the article propose to integrate decorative and applied art techniques into the educational process. The article presents the features of the educational process within the framework of the educational program «Designing light industry products», which trains fashion designers of clothing, shoes and accessories. The authors of the article propose an algorithm that has been tested by students in the development of collections using techniques of decorative and applied art. The algorithm consists of successive stages that allow introducing techniques and elements of decorative and applied art into the context of modern fashion and obtaining an up-to-date collection. The algorithm proposed by the authors of the article is implemented in the educational process of the Department «Artistic Modeling, Design and Technology of Leather products», Kosygin Russian State University (Technologies. Design. Art) in the form of a textbook, in accordance with the Plan of research works of the Kosygin Russian State University for 2019-2023. The authors of the article give examples of the development of collections of shoes and accessories using various techniques of decorative and applied art, in particular Romanian needle lace, leather embossing techniques, macrame. The use of additional techniques and techniques in the educational process allows you to build it in such a way that from the first year a student, under the guidance of a mentor, forms an individual trajectory of professional development that will help him identify and develop his strengths, which will allow him to get a unique light industry specialist at the exit from the university.
